Street Photography

Street photography is an art of capturing candid shots of everyday life, culture, society and anything you see publicly. Street photography doesn’t have a very strict rule of sticking to capture life on the streets; it involves anything that is a part of the society because a real street photographer knows how important it is to capture honest shots. For real candid shots you need to click the photographs by catching the subject off guard or without them having a clue of being photographed. With this, you can capture the unpretentious emotions of daily life.

There are no rigid rules when you begin your passion and enter into street photography. You just need to be there with the people running the race of life on the streets and point the camera at your own vision of everyday routines happening around you. Feel free to capture people on the streets walking towards places they need to get, people socializing and laughing, people kissing goodbyes outside the airports or even simple acts of a kid yawning.

If you want, you can defiantly choose a fancy party for candid shots; whereas the places you need to actually be at are those where people are dressed in their daily armors. Go to a construction site, capture the engineers with sweating brows and working regardless of scorching sun, get down to the bus stop and capture the anxiousness of people going to attend interviews or meeting, go to an open market and capture the exchange of emotions between the buyer and the seller.

When talking about street photography it does not necessarily have to be on the streets and there is no compulsion of adding people to your shots. You can choose any public place, metropolitan statues, urban landscapes, and architectural details that speak about life. You need to get your hands dirty, only then you will begin to feel the concept of street photography.

To get insight into street photography follow and learn from the street photography giants mentioned as under:

Eugene Atget – a founding father of the street photography, and whose popular work involves documenting the society of Paris, its beautiful streets and its low-key architecture.

Garry Winogrand – an anterior street photographer that captured social issues of American life in the New York City.

Henri Cartier is the grandfather of street photographers who mastered the art of candid shots and decisive moments. His perspective involves “In photography, the smallest thing can be a great subject. The little, human detail can become a Leitmotiv.”
